Conference at NISCAIR dated on 6 Nov 09

Today i attended the conference held in NISCAIR. Their were two speakers: one from Thompson Reuters on "India's Scientific Research" by David Pendlebury and other one by NISCAIR director Ganjan Prathap on "An energy assessment metric for research evaluation". 

Ganjan Prathap on "An energy assessment metric for research evaluation" gives the formula to assess performance when work/targets is/are assigned:

volume= v

Quality/Impact= i

Performance Indicator= v x i 

Apart from that, Mr. Ganjan Pratap also talked about the h-index i.e Hirsh Index.

And David Pendlebury talked about the india's participation in the world share of papers and many more.

He mentioned two good books which are very helpful to understand Bibliometric and citation analysis completely.

These are: 1- Citation Analysis in Research Evaluation by Henk F Moed and 

                    2- Bibliometrics to Citation Analysis: From Science citation Index to Cybermetrics by                            Nicole De Bellis.

Library 2.0: emerging concept

As i had already briefly  mentioned Library 2.0, now i will continue the same.

It was believed that the term, Library 2.0, first used by Micheal Casey in his blog LibraryCrunch.

Library 2.0 is very different from the services we know today, but it is not replacing the traditional services provided by the library, it operates according to the expectation of the users and their need. 

Library 2.0 aims is to encourage feedback and participation from the community.

Library 2.0 is easy to use, attractable to new user/s and constantly re-evaluated and updated.

So to be in the race of existance, library should cope with the changing needs of the user and with the help of the newer technology they can fulfill those needs.

Library 2.0

Library 2.0 is the new concept emerging. It is basically a library services model, user centered.

It uitilises the web 2.0 technology. It help you to tag, comment and even user can tailored the services according to his/her needs. 

Semantic Web

I am reading about  "semantic web" these days and i found it very interesting. As i undestood it, It is not about the linking webpages as happened in the web, it is the extension of the current web. Basically, Semantic web is the web that define the things as computer understand it.

It, typically, defines the relatonship between the things and the properties of the things.
